It sounds really painful to constantly show up for the people you love and still feel like no one shows up for you in the same way. When this happens repeatedly, it can leave you feeling unappreciated, resentful, and exhausted.

  • It may help to notice the pattern of thoughts that comes with this, such as “I have to keep giving so they will value me” or “If I say no, I am being selfish.” Those thoughts can keep you stuck in overgiving, even when it is hurting you.
  • I would gently bring you back to your values. You can value family, generosity, and love without abandoning yourself in the process. Caring for people does not mean saying yes every time or giving more than you can emotionally or financially afford.
  • You might start with small boundaries: give because you genuinely want to, not because you are afraid of disappointing someone. Notice who reciprocates, who respects your limits, and where you may need to step back.

Therapy can also help you understand why you may feel responsible for everyone, work through the guilt that can come with saying no, and learn how to build relationships that feel more balanced.

You deserve relationships where care does not only flow in one direction. 🤍
