Feeling stuck with someone who devalues you can be incredibly confusing, especially when part of you knows the relationship is hurting you but another part is still attached. That doesn’t mean you’re weak. It usually means there is something emotionally important keeping the bond in place.

  • It can help to notice the thoughts that keep you stuck: “Maybe they will change,” “Maybe I’m asking for too much." “What if I never find someone else?” Then ask yourself: What evidence do I have from their actual behavior, not just their promises?
  • Ask yourself: “What kind of love do I want to experience?” Respect? Safety? Kindness? Consistency? Then gently look at whether this relationship is moving you toward those values or away from them.
  • You don’t have to force yourself to stop caring overnight. Letting go is often a process. You can start with small boundaries, less contact, leaning on people you trust, and reminding yourself that missing someone does not always mean they are good for you.

Therapy can also help you understand why it feels so hard to leave, strengthen your self-worth, and support you while you begin choosing relationships that feel more respectful and emotionally safe.

Sometimes healing starts with accepting: I can love someone and still decide that the way they treat me is not enough.
